Onion Roti is a masaledar (Spicy)
Indian flat bread. It is a classic North Indian flavorful roti. This easy to
make onion chapati is spiced with chopped green chilies or red chilli powder, cumin
seeds and ajwain seeds. Chopped onions and coriander impart taste and crunch to
the roti. Serve it with pickle, raita, curd or tea. You can also serve Onion
Roti along with any dry vegetable (Sukhi Sabji).

Ingredients
Whole Wheat
Flour – 1 cup
Finely
Chopped Onions – 1 cup
Chopped
Green chillies – 1 tsp (optional)
Finely
Chopped Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
Red Chilli
Powder – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Ajwain seeds – ¼ tsp
Ghee –
1 tsp (optional)
Salt
to taste
Whole Wheat
Flour for rolling
Method
Take whole
wheat flour in a deep bowl. Add chopped onions, green chilies, coriander
leaves, red chilli powder, cumin seeds,
ajwain seeds and salt. Mix well and knead
to smooth dough by using enough water. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. Divide the
dough into medium size balls. Take a ball and roll it into a circle like a roti
or a chapati (about 6 inches in diameter)
using little wheat flour for dusting. Heat a non-stick tawa. Put the roti on the
tawa and cook from both sides until
little brown spots appear. Apply ghee on one side of the roti. Serve hot with
butter, pickle, curd or tea.
