Rava Upma Recipe | Sooji Upma | How to make Rava Upma?
Rava Upma is a breakfast
dish from the Indian subcontinent, most common in South India. It is cooked as
a thick porridge from roasted semolina. You can add various vegetables or
seasonings during the cooking as per your taste and preferences. Today it is a
popular breakfast/snack in most parts of
India and is prepared in different ways.

Ingredients
Semolina
(Rava) – 1 Cup
Oil
-- 1 ½ tbsp
Mustard
Seeds – ½ tsp
Urad
Dal (split black gram) – 1 tsp
Curry
Leaves – 8
Chopped
Green Chillies – 2
Chopped
Onions – ¼ Cup
Lemon
juice – 2 tsp
Sugar
– 1 tsp
Red
Chilli powder – ½ tsp
Salt
to taste
Method
Place
semolina in a kadhai and dry roast over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes, while
stirring occasionally. Transfer to a bowl and keep aside. Heat the oil in a
kadhai. Add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Stir until mustard seeds crackle.
Add chopped onions and saute until slightly soft. Add curry leaves and green chilies and saute on a medium flame for a minute. Add the roasted semolina and stir
vigorously about a minute. Add 3 cups of hot water. Add salt and mix well.
Cover with a lid and allow the mixture to cook on low heat for 3 minutes,
stirring occasionally. Add sugar and lemon juice. Mix well and cook on medium
heat for about 1 minute, stirring constantly. Serve Rava Upma immediately with
a hot cup of tea or filter coffee.
