Onion Paratha is a quick and
simple fuss-free everyday recipe. It is whole wheat flat bread stuffed with
finely chopped onions and a few spices. This recipe requires very little
advance preparation. If you love to eat onions then I am sure you will definitely
like this paratha.
Onion Paratha recipe is
commonly prepared in two different ways. The first way is by stuffing the
paratha with spiced onions. In the second method, the chopped onions are added directly
while kneading the dough for parathas. In this preparation, I have used the
first method for making this pyaz paratha.
Onion paratha recipe is also
known as Pyaz Ka Paratha recipe in Hindi. You can prepare Pyaz ka paratha for daily
breakfast or for a quick brunch or lunch. Moreover, Pyaz paratha is a suitable recipe
to make on the day when you have only onions left in your kitchen.
Onion paratha typically eaten
by itself without any sabji (side vegetable dish). Some people love to eat Pyaz
ka paratha with a cup of tea. You can also serve Pyaz parathas with any vegetable
curry, plain curd or raita. This will be a perfect dish to be packed in your
kid’s lunch box along with a sauce.

Ingredients for Pyaz Paratha
For Dough
Wheat flour – 2 cups
Ghee – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Water as required
For stuffing
Finely chopped onion – 1
(large size)
Finely chopped green chilies
– 2 (optional)
Red chili powder as required
Dry mango powder (Amchur) –
1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil or ghee for frying the
parathas
Method for making Pyaz Paratha
First, we will knead the
dough for pyaz paratha recipe. Mix flour with a little salt. Add ghee and knead
to a smooth and soft dough by adding water. Cover and keep it aside for 20
minutes.
Now, we will prepare the
stuffing for Pyaz ka paratha recipe. Take chopped onions, chopped green chilies,
red chili powder, dry mango powder and salt in a bowl. Mix well and keep aside.
Divide the dough into medium
size balls. Take a ball and roll it into a circle like a chapati using little whole
wheat flour for dusting. Put some onion mixture in the center. Join all the
edges of the dough (rolled chapati) to seal the mixture in the center and press
with your palm. Roll it again like a chapati (about 6 inches in diameter) using
little whole wheat flour for dusting.
Heat a non-stick tawa on medium
heat. Place the rolled paratha on hot tawa and fry using oil or ghee until
brown spots appear on both sides. Remove the paratha from the tawa and keep in an
insulated container.
Repeat the same for making remaining
parathas. Serve pyaz ka paratha as a breakfast or lunch with vegetable curry, dal,
curd, raita, pickle or tea.
